Winter sports are coming to a close for Fairfax high schools, and the “fall” sports are about to start up! Winter sports like track and field, basketball, and wrestling are all getting ready for championships and finals while fall sports have their first games coming up soon. Here’s some information about fall and winter sports just for you! 

Winter Sports

As you already know, winter sports are just about done and you don’t want to miss the end of the exciting season! Most of the sports have already finished like basketball, but track and field are still going on. Track and Field are closing up the season with varsity (girls and boys) regionals and state finals on February 19 & 20 and March 1. Make sure to cheer them on for the final part of the season!

Fall Sports

Fall sports are coming up and you don’t want to miss the beginning of the season! Fall sports include football, girl’s volleyball, field hockey, cross country, golf, and cheerleading. Below are the dates of the first game for each sport in a timeline order. 

 

  • Varsity Football – First game: Monday, February 22 at 7:00 pm vs West Springfield @ Justice High School
  • Freshman Football – First game: Thursday, February 25 at 5:30 pm vs John R. Lewis HS @ Justice High School
  • Junior Varsity Football – First game: Thursday, February 25 at 7:15 pm vs John R. Lewis HS @ Justice High School
  • Boys Golf – First Match – Monday, March 1 Time TBD vs various HS @ Greendale CC
  • Girls Freshman Volleyball – First Game: Monday, March 1 at 5:00 pm vs George Marshall @ Justice High School
  • Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball – First Game: Monday, March 1 at 6:00 pm vs George Marshall @ Justice High School
  • Junior Varsity Field Hockey – First Game: Monday, March 1 at 6:15 pm vs Annandale @ Justice High School
  • Girls Varsity Volleyball – First Game: Monday, March 1 at 7:15 pm vs George Marshall @ Justice High School
  • Varsity Field Hockey – First Game: Monday, March 1 at 7:30 pm vs Annandale @ Justice High School

Now that you know the upcoming start to the fall season, make sure to cheer on! Even though you may not be able to go to games, you can still make sure to root for them and support them in any way possible. For example, maybe you could make signs and put them up around your house and neighborhood, post something on social media, or even buy some clothing to help the team and showcase your high school.
