If you are a Disney Movie lover, you’ve probably heard of the popular musical hit that came out November 24, 2021 : Encanto. 

Encanto is about the Colombian Madrigal Family that was blessed with the miracle of magic being brought upon their home. Each family member gains a certain power, known as a “gift”, that can be used to help the community, except for when it comes to Mirabel. The 15-year-old girl has the same unanswered question repeatedly buzzing through her mind: “Why didn’t I get a gift?”

Tensions rise as drama floods through the once happy casita as each member of the Madrigal family faces problems bigger than themselves. The magic is dying. The community is getting worried. It is all up to Mirabel to solve this puzzle of twisted magic and bring honor back to her family. She faces the big question: Will she fix this mess in time?

The plot of this movie is wonderfully written, with the theme of respecting and honoring family and community. Not only does Encanto have an entertaining plot that’s perfect for all ages, but it also has fun animations and vibrant visuals that will keep you hooked until the end.

The music also plays a big part in this movie’s popularity. There are 8 original songs (co-written by Lin Manuel Miranda) featured in the Disney film, We Don’t Talk About Bruno being among them. These beautiful, well-produced songs include Colombian-style elements.  Not only are these songs super catchy, but they also relate to both the storyline and our everyday lives.

Along with that, Disney managed to bring Colombian culture into the entire film! The lengths that Lin Manuel Miranda and his team went to informing the Colombian Cultural Trust, a committee of Colombian writers, artists, musicians, botanists, etc, was evident in the million tiny details that represented Colombian culture in such a remarkable way. The story is uniquely Colombian while also being entirely universal and relatable at the same time. 

Encanto is a must-watch for Disney Music lovers and is enjoyable for the whole family.
