Were you aware that today is National Anime day? April 15th is a day to celebrate the fine art of Japanese animation. Most people probably think that anime is just Japanese drawings, but it’s much more than that. Not only does anime have its own unique style of art, but it’s also very creative in its music and plot. There are multiple people working every day for months, even years, on composing music, drawing each picture frame by frame, voice acting the characters, and all of this effort just to make 20 minutes of an episode. Take Studio Ghibli, for example, one of the most successful animation studios ever. One of Ghibli’s greatest creations was the animated movie called “Spirited Away,” written by Hayao Miyazaki. It made over 383.4 million USD in 2001, topped off with Joe Hisaishi who composed the original soundtrack for Spirited Away and other Ghibli movies. He still makes music to this day. Ghibli is just one example of the many animation studios out there and how much effort they put into making something beautiful. Anime has made an impact on millions of lives, from inspiring their childhood to making them believe in the impossible. How can we celebrate the beauty of Japanese animation? You can participate by cosplaying (dressing up as a character that inspires you), sharing your love for anime on social media by buying or showing off merchandise, or even just watching anime on National Anime Day. Most importantly, just enjoy April 15th the way you want to, by just listening to the OST’S (Original Soundtrack) in addition to watching the anime itself. Above all, just have fun with it and be yourself.

Here are some of Joe Hisaishi’s songs:

Merry Go Round Life (Howl’s Moving Castle Theme) – Joe Hisaishi
