The U.S. Department of State has announced as of April 11, 2022, U.S. citizens will be allowed to select the gender ‘X’ instead of selecting female/male. The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken. With this news, lots of people feel strongly for or against it.

Bee Fish (they/them) says they agree with the new gender being provided as an option on passports. “Being non-binary myself, I appreciate how they are making it easier for people that don’t identify themselves with Male or Female to have an option on a legal document to go with their gender.” L Cruz (him/she/them) agrees with them. “I think this is an awesome opportunity. I also think a lot of people will be mad about the new addition to passports.”

Whether students appreciate the change or not, this announcement assists many gender nonconforming/nonbinary students at Glasgow in feeling accepted by the government on a legal document. Share your thoughts about this news in the comments.
