This Year’s Met Gala

The Met Gala took place on September 13, 2021. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Founded in 1948, the Met Gala is a fundraising gala held each year in New York City. For this year’s Met, the anticipation has been building up, especially with 2020’s Met Gala being canceled. The theme for this year’s Met Gala was American Independence. In past years, some themes were Heavenly Bodies, Through the Looking Glass, and Camp.
The Met Gala usually invites around 600 people. However, this year the number of attendees was less than other years due to Covid-19. There were still many outfits the night of the gala. Let’s look at some of the outfits of the night and their inspirations.
One of the couples who attended the Met Gala would be Hailey and Justin Bieber. Dressed in matching black, Hailey’s outfit was a black Saint Laurent gown with a structured embellished neckline, some black sunglasses and jewelry. Justin, on the other hand, wore a black suit (also by Saint Laurent) with a white shirt underneath, and Nike air forces with smiley faces on them.
Billie Eilish showed up at the gala in a voluminous peach gown that stunned the crowd. According to Billie, “I loved dresses growing up, like, all I did was wear dresses… had all my Barbies. I would take their dresses and admire them and wish that they were mine. I finally got to do that and kind of look how I always dreamed of looking when I felt confident enough to wear one.” Her outfit fit the theme in which she went as the late Marilyn Monroe, an iconic American celebrity.
Other celebrities attended the Met Gala like Kim Kardashian, Emma Chamberlain, Lili Reinhart, Kendall Jenner, and so on. The Met Gala is one day in a year where designers and celebrities get to make dresses and show them off to the public and display their talents.
Fernanda Ventura Palomo (she/her) was born and raised in Virginia. She loves to paint, draw, write, and read. Some things some people might not know is that she loves to read and watch Harry Potter, her house in Ravenclaw. One of her favorite things to do is watch Christmas romance movies and one her favorite movies would be Beauty and the Beast, she is a hopeless romantic for movies.
Blue Linden is a web developer, designer, writer, and artist from Falls Church. Her pronouns are she/her. She was born at an extraordinarily young age in 2007, and is the oldest she's ever been as of 2022. She didn't know what aesthetics she liked, so she simply chose to blend them all together and ingest the results. She is a control freak and will stop at nothing to get administrator-level access to whatever she is involved in.
In her quest to design the Panther Post website, she has accidentally learned HTML, CSS, and little bits of PHP. She would like you to believe her work does not involve dark magic, however the validity of her statements on that subject is questionable at best.
She is an avid collector of glares and will annoy you endlessly for her own enjoyment. (As long as you're cool with it, though!)
Do not annoy her, because she can and will change the font of any articles you write to Comic Sans if you bother her enough.
