In case you didn’t already know, FCPS has created a new, more diverse calendar to be more inclusive towards different religions and cultures. Now, instead of breaks and days off being centered around mainstream or Christian holidays, they’re more loosely placed so that it accommodates different cultures and religions.
The new calendar accounts for lots of holidays such as Yom Kippur, Eid-al-Fitr, Three Kings Day, and the Lunar New Year. With all the new inclusions, students and teachers won’t get the day off, but no test or important work will be on these days and there will be cultural lessons for the certain holiday. On these holidays, students will get the chance to learn about different cultures and religions.
As you can see,the new inclusive calendar is a great improvement to the previous one. By adding more holidays, FCPS can be more welcoming to students of all backgrounds and cultures.
