On September 18th, 2020, the beloved U.S Supreme Cout judge, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, had painfully passed away. Just 8 days after that tragedy, Donald Trump nominates yet another person during his presidency, 48 year old and mother of 7, Judge Amy Coney Barrett to step in. Recently, on October 26th, 2020, Amy was confirmed into a lifetime role at the court as the 6th conservative judge, but was her confirmation all that jazz? Here is what the members of the GMS community have to say about this acceptance.

“It was one of those big tragedies,” said 7th grader, Diana, when she was asked about RBG’s death and what this nomination felt like. “I don’t have a strong opinion… I just feel like it was really quick.”

“You can’t trust Trump,” argues 13 year old, Nahom Daniel, while talking about this nomination.

“It bothers me…,” replies 8th grader, Collen Early, agreeing with Nahom.

“Probably like more than a few weeks, maybe even a month or two because that was just too fast and it didn’t seem like he respected that she died,” replied 8th grader, Saron Amdemeskel, when talking about how long we should have waited before nominating someone.

While 38.1% of GMS members who filled out the form said they were unsure, it seems as though around 53.7% of members agree with Saron and had said that we indeed should have waited until the mourning of RBG was complete. 32.1% of our members stated that we should have waited only around 1-4 months, while 21.6% argued that we ought to have waited for more than 4 months. Although 8.9% had implied that Amy’s confirmation was fine as it is, it seems as though there will be some regrets.
