Rushel Grillo has been a part of the Glasgow Team for four years. She loves the community and leadership in this school and is proud to be a Panther. This is her 10th year in FCPS where she has taught students spanning 4th-8th grade. Currently, she is the Journalism Program teacher. Her classes include Journalism 101, Media Communications and Yearbook. Other responsibilities include a Lead on the Instructional Technology Team, Leader Mentor and CT Leader of the Design Department.
Rushel finished her undergraduate degree from Houghton College with BA in Psychology. After a career in youth counseling and business, Rushel went back to school to procure her M.Ed of Curriculum & Instruction from George Mason University. She has an endorsement in Advanced Academics and truly loves teaching Critical and Creative thinking skills. Rushel is also the Color Guard Instructor at Mount Vernon High School. She is the assistant to the Band Director and creates routine for the Marching Band in the Fall. In the winter, the very competitive indoor season begins. From November until April, Rushel can be found choreographing dance, flag & weapon routines and designing and unforgettable show. In 2019 the MVHS Majors took home 1st place at the AIA State Championships! If Rushel isn't working on lesson plans or grading, she can be found at MVHS in the evenings and on the weekends.
At a personal level, Rushel grew up in Western New York, South of Buffalo & Rochester (Go Buffalo Bills!). She is an avid Washington Nationals Fan, loves to read, write, travel and dance. She claims that her true passion is her students, and puts her all into making sure that they feel welcome in her classroom. She is obsessed with dressing up in costume, sports, playing board games and the Harry Potter Series. Rushel lives with her husband- Jeremy, her sister- Cori, and 2 kitty cats- Merlin & Mr. Ollivander Scamander (Ollie).
